Milestones
Dated outcomes with an owner, a priority, and a status — the top level of a Crux plan, holding the activities and to-dos that deliver them.
A milestone is an outcome, not a task. "Checkout redesign signed off", "Discovery complete", "Pricing decision made" — something that is either true or not true on a given date. The work that gets you there lives underneath it as activities, and the tasks inside that work live underneath those as to-dos.
Create one
Three routes, depending on where you are:
- Plan → Overview — the Milestone button adds one inline at the top of the outline.
- Plan → Calendar or Timeline — New → Milestone creates one in the period you are looking at.
- From a research item — Assign → Create new → Milestone creates the milestone and attaches the item to it in one step.
The Agent can propose a whole set of them from a goal, which is usually faster than starting with an empty outline.
What a milestone holds
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Title | The outcome, phrased as a result rather than an action |
| Outcome | What is true once this milestone is reached |
| Start, Duration, Completion | The schedule. Durations count work days only, so a five-day milestone starting on a Thursday finishes the following Wednesday |
| Priority | Urgent, High, Medium, or Low |
| Status | Backlog, Todo, In Progress, In Review, Done, Cancelled, or Duplicate |
| Owner | Accountable for the milestone landing |
| People | Involved in the work, but not accountable for the outcome |
A milestone detail opens on two tabs: Outcome for the write-up and the fields above, and Activities for the work sitting under it, where you can add an activity or open one.
The split between Owner and People is deliberate: an outcome with three owners has none. Activities take a single People list instead, because the accountability question is already answered one level up.
Order and re-sequencing
Milestones keep the order you put them in. On Overview, Move earlier and Move later shift one up or down the outline. On Timeline and Calendar, dragging a milestone changes its dates rather than its position in the list — sequence and schedule are separate on purpose, so a slipped date does not silently reshuffle the plan.
Grouping activities under a milestone
- Overview — the Activity button inside a milestone creates one already parented to it.
- Timeline — right-click a milestone bar and choose Add activity, or use an activity's Milestone submenu to move it.
- Activity detail — an activity can be re-parented at any time.
An activity does not have to belong to a milestone. Ungrouped activities collect under Not in a milestone at the bottom of the outline, which is a useful holding area for work you know you need but have not yet tied to an outcome.
Deleting a milestone
Delete milestone asks for confirmation, and it only removes the milestone: its activities stay in the plan and move to Not in a milestone. Deleting an outcome never deletes the work or the evidence underneath it.
